TO OUR PARENT SURVEY!

https://goo.gl/forms/Nu1sMOw6p7AQTi9K2

We hope to receive one completed survey from each household in the district.

This survey will be active from Monday, Oct 30 through Monday, Nov 6.

BACKGROUND:

Our District has been conducting an inquiry into the dual-program system we have (i.e. Traditional & Enrich! programs). The Enrich! program has grown over the years from just 40 students, to now serving just over half the students in the District. We want to make sure that this system still serves our community, or is it time to evolve again -- maybe to just one magnet program for all? As part of that inquiry process, our GUSD Board established a stakeholder committee that includes representatives including: teachers, administrators, MPF, GSF, and GUSD Board members.

The committee is exploring a pilot for a new program called "Kindergarten Discovery" that unifies the best of the Traditional and Enrich! programs into one program that would serve all students in the kindergarten level.

We would like to take a moment to check in and learn more about the level of parent satisfaction with the program(s) that serve their children currently. We are also seeking your help to design the Kindergarten Discovery program. So the committee has developed a parent survey.

We will also have computers available on each school campus for parents who prefer to take the electronic survey at school. On the Gravenstein campus, the survey will be available in the computer lab. At Hillcrest, just check in to the school office for computer access.

The stakeholder committee is meeting on a weekly basis, and will soon release a similar survey designed for teacher input. Stay tuned! Our goal is to have the Kindergarten Discovery proposal to the GUSD Board for approval by December 2017.

Have a great week!

Mrs. Schwinn

All Gravenstein schools will reopen to students on Tuesday, October 17. We believe that Analy High School and Twin Hills schools will reopen the same day.

District staff will report to our schools on Monday, October 16, as directed by Superintendent Schwinn.

We plan to have a regular schedule on Tuesday and going forward. We also plan to have before-and-after school care and regular meal and bus service, but we will let you know as soon as possible of any changes. We are still checking on the availability of off-campus special education services and transportation.

We will modify outdoor activities for students as needed depending on air quality. As always, we urge parents to carpool whenever possible, both for traffic and air quality considerations.

Many Gravenstein families, including staff, have been deeply affected by the ongoing wildfire crisis. At least two of our teachers, and an unknown number of students, lost their homes in the fire. Many others are still under evacuation orders. Fortunately, we know our Gravenstein community will pull together to benefit our students and families.

We will keep you posted on any further details or developments. Thank you.

Gravenstein Elementary and Hillcrest Middle Schools will remain closed Wednesday, October 11, through Friday, October 13, due to the wildfires that are burning in Sonoma County.  At this point, neither campus is directly affected by the fires, but several members of the school community have been impacted.  We expect school to resume on Monday, October 16.  Any events missed during this closure will be rescheduled.
